Turkmen Rugs

A Turkmen rug (or Turkoman) also known as Kunduz,  is a hand-knotted carpet originally produced by nomadic tribes of Central Asia, almost entirely with locally obtained materials, wool from the herds and vegetable dyes, using geomterical designs that varied from tribe to tribe. More recently, large rug workshops in the cities have appeared, producing in large numbers for export in Pakistan and Iran. Turkmen rugs are known for the deep rich red colour sourced from the madder root, and designs are all-over motifs, often the octagonal "Elephants Foot".
