Turkoman/Turkman tribes are the main ethnic group in Turkmenistan but are also found in Iran and Afghanistan. The origin of this rug is Iranian. The Turkoman tribe are known as the finest of all tribal weavers. From the end of the 20th century carpet weaving in Turkmenistan is one of the most important sectors of the economy. 

The designs are geometric - tekke, yomut, ersari etc varying from tribe to tribe.  The most common design is the typical bokhara. The construction is 100% quality sheep’s wool, and natural dyes are used to produce reds, blues etc.
