Turkoman/Turkman tribes are the main ethnic group in Turkmenistan but are also found in Iran & Afghanistan. The origin of this rug is Iranian. The Turkoman tribe are known as the finest of all tribal weavers. The designs are geometric - tekke, yomut, ersari etc varying from tribe to tribe.  The most common design is the typical bokhara. The construction is 100% quality sheep’s wool & natural dyes are used to produce reds, blues etc. From the end of the 20th century carpet weaving in Turkmenistan is one of the most important sectors of the economy.
