About House of Haghi

We are proud to be the premier rug importer in New Zealand since 1980.

About our Rugs

We import our rugs mainly from Iran( Persia) , North India, Turkey and Afghanistan.

All our rugs are made from 100% pure wool, wool on cotton base, wool & silk, or 100% silk & they are all available online & in our showroom.

Wool is commonly regarded as the strongest, most vibrant, and most resilient fibre choice for handmade rugs.

So, if longevity and durability are your goals, high-quality hand-knotted wool rugs cannot be beaten.

Wool is the only truly sustainable rug fibre choice because it is harvested seasonally from sheep that are prized and specially bred and globally sourced for the variety of fine wools they produce. New Zealand and Australian wool are well known and are sought after for their top-quality production. Proper care of your hand-knotted wool rug will ensure its longevity.

Absolutely! Our design team and weavers working together can render simple to complex designs in wool, wool and silk mixture, 100% silk in most shapes and sizes. Yes, we highly recommend the use of non-slip rug grip or pads. There are many benefits to using a rug grip for both hard surfaces such as wood, tile, concrete and soft faces like carpeting. Rug grips allow you to:
1- Keep the rug firmly in place with no slippage.
2- Provide an extra layer of cushion, which some may prefer especially under very close pile rugs.

How do I store my rug if I don’t use it?

It is preferable to wrap the rug up for storage.  Paper is the ideal product for wrapping.  Please do not use plastic or a similar product as it stops the rug from breathing.

Before rolling the carpet, the first thing you should keep in mind is that if your carpet is damaged in any way, you should repair the rotten and damaged area first. Please note that ignoring this issue will result in additional deterioration in your rug and will be more costly to repair in the future.

Please make sure the rug is clean before storing .  If it has not been cleaned for many years, it is advisable to get a professional rug cleaner to clean it.  If it is reasonably clean a good vacuum before storage is a good idea.

It is preferable to wrap the rug up for storage.  Paper is the ideal product for wrapping. Please do not use plastic or a similar product as it stops the rug from breathing.

When rolling the rug, particularly large carpets, the assistance of two or three people is preferable. Otherwise, the carpet may not be tubed evenly and the two ends of the carpet may not be smooth, causing the protruding edges to be eaten and damaged over time.

If your handmade rug is particularly valuable to you, it is advisable to spread a clean, disinfected linen or cotton cloth on it before rolling it to prevent dust and other contaminants from entering. The next step is to secure the carpet with a rope to prevent dust and other contaminants from accessing the carpet.

The final note about storing a rolled handmade rug is to ensure that the area in which it is stored is free of moisture, insects and vermin, sunlight penetration, and dust.
Additionally, make sure that this environment has adequate ventilation.
