Located approximately 150 kilometres east of Isfahan in central Iran, Nain developed its own distinctive style in the mid-20th century, known for its delicate patterns, balanced compositions, and exceptional quality. Fathollah Habibian (1903–1995), widely regarded as the father of Nain rugs, established one of the most celebrated Nain workshops, creating some of the finest examples of Persian carpet artistry.
Traditional Nain rugs are recognised for their fine weaving, often featuring a cotton foundation with wool or wool-and-silk piles. Their quality is measured by knot density (KPSI) as well as LAA, a Persian term referring to the number of threads forming each fringe, with higher LAA classifications representing finer craftsmanship and greater detail.
