A Shiraz rug is a Persian rug handmade by the Qashqai people in the villages surrounding Shiraz, in the Persian province of Fars. In the 13th century, Shiraz became the leading center of arts and letters. The King encouraged the presence of many Persian scholars and artists. Shiraz was the original area where, the well-known Shiraz grapes are grown. Tribal in design and hand-knotted in 100% wool. Various plants and natural materials are used for dying wool.
