This beautiful round Tabriz rug is hand-knotted from fine lamb’s wool, giving it a soft feel and a gentle natural glow. The first thing you notice is the deep black field, which makes all the colours and motifs stand out with amazing clarity. In the centre, there’s a classic Shamsa (sunburst) medallion, and from there the design blossoms outward in perfect circles.
The rug is filled with the motifs Tabriz weavers are famous for Shah Abbasi flowers, delicate rosettes and flowing islimi (arabesque) vines that repeat in a beautiful organised rhythm. Around the edges, the border features traditional Tabriz-style floral panels and palmettes in soft tones of rose, sky blue, olive, terracotta and ivory. The contrast against the black background gives the rug a rich, elegant look without being too bold.
