This modern, hand-knotted wool and silk pile rug references the Damask patterns. Typical of the Byzantine and Middle Eastern weaving centres of the early middle ages. An artistic design of large swirling leaves and flowers, boldly placed on a black background. A combination of blue and grey colours has been used.
