Hamadan village rugs are known for their hand-knotted, strong and sturdy quality, using local sheep’s wool. The pile is usually thick. Hamadan is a collecting centre for all the nearby villages and is situated on a plateau, in central Iran. There is a large portfolio of designs used in village rugs - floral with the ‘herati’, ‘boteh’, ‘mahi’ etc. Motifs are displayed in various sizes. Natural dyes used are extracted from vegetables, insects and roots. 

Hand-knotted 100% wool, traditional Persian village rug.  This design features a central medallion placed on a 'Herati' field in pink/red, and surrounded by a narrow border, using a combination of floral and geometric motifs.
