Originating from Kurdistan, north west of Iran, Mahabad rugs (also Mihabad and Muhabad) are tribal rugs using traditional designs. They are hand knotted in wool with designs featuring a bold central medallion, placed on a usually intricate field, and surrounded by a border. Motifs are floral and ornate, colours rich and bright.
